The following is a selection of some of the Club’s past events. Events are a very important part of the Club’s activities since they help to further its conservation activities by raising its overall profile and are the ideal way for members to get together, discuss their common interests and enjoy themselves.
This year marks the 213th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, and the 14th New York City Pickle Night Dinner will mark this history shaping event on 9 November 2018. Those who appreciate the historical significance of Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson and the lore associated with his life are invited to attend this special event. The Dinner is named for HM Schooner Pickle, which participated in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 and which brought the news to Britain of Nelson’s victory and death in the battle. This event has been a perennial success, with guests from the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Switzerland and elsewhere
Most recently Chief of Staff of the Joint Forces Command, his initial duty assignments have included officer of the watch in HMS LEEDS CASTLE, navigator in HMS ANDROMEDA, commanding officer in HMS BLAZER and operations officer HMS BEAVER. Subsequent assignments include both shore and afloat duty in the Royal Navy and international commands including security duties in the Falklands, NATO embargo operations in the Adriatic, as well as escort duties in the Iran/Iraq Tanker War, and countering smuggling in Hong Kong and the Caribbean. While serving with the Naval Training Team in Iraq, he was awarded the Bronze Star by the United States government. VAdm Radakin is a qualified barrister, and has also graduated from several military related courses in the U.S. His operational and academic experience gives him a special operator’s perspective on the Royal Navy and Lord Nelson.

The 1805 Club’s Pickle Night Celebration will be held at 18:00–21:00hrs at National Liberal Club, 1 Whitehall Place, London, SW1A 2HE.
Captain Peter Hore, RN Rtd (Editor of The Club's Annual Trafalgar Chronicle) will lead an evening of readings, entertainment, finger buffet and wine to commemorate the arrival at the nearby Old Admiralty of the news borne by HMS Pickle of the victory and Lord Horatio Nelson’s death at the ‘Battle of Trafalgar in 1805’.

The Annual Trafalgar Dinner will take place in Portsmouth. Full details and booking information will be available later in the Kedge Anchor and in the Members’ Area.
As last year, members have the opportunity to attend the formal wreath laying ceremony by the First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff (or his representative) in the crypt of St Paul’s Cathedral to commemorate the death of Admiral Lord Nelson.
The ceremony was designed by The 1805 Club in conjunction with the Royal Navy, Sea Cadet Corps and the Dean of St Paul’s.
Wreaths will be laid by: The First Sea Lord or his Representative, The Royal Naval Association, The Sea Cadets Corps, and The Society for Nautical Research.
After the official wreath laying ceremony, which will last about 15 minutes, there will be a short ceremony at the tomb of Admiral Lord Collingwood.

This visit was a great success and very much enjoyed by all who attended. The sun shone and visitors were able to see all the trees and the clumps that were of historical interest. A full report and photographs will be available soon.
The 1805 Club arranged a private visit for members to view at close quarters the conservation being undertaken in The Painted Hall at The Old Royal Naval College (ORNC) before the work is finally finished in September 2018. This is the largest Conservation project in Europe and a unique experience. Our visit was guided by Will Palin, Director of The Restoration Project.
The AGM and Members’ Day was held in the East India Club, St. James Square, London.
The Cecil Isaacson Memorial Lecture will be given by Dr Vanessa Collingridge, historian, author, broadcaster and TV presenter during the afternoon. The title of her lecture is “James Cook: exploration, navigation and celebrity in the 18th century”.
Both events were very much enjoyed by all members who attended. Next year’s AGM and Members’ Day has been provisional booked for Saturday the 11th May 2019. Venue to be named later in the year.
This year The Immortal Memory of Admiral Lord Nelson was held The ORNC Chapel and The King Charles wing of The Admiral’s House in London.
