The Reverend Lynda Sebbage is The 1805 Club’s Chaplain. She was ordained priest in June 2018 at St Edmundsbury & Ipswich Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. In August 2020 she moved to her benefice as priest in charge of the Barrow Benefice which is just outside Bury St Edmunds.
The role as Chaplain to The 1805 Club is far reaching, but in the main it is to offer spiritual support and to act in an advisory role when the Club is involved with events that include Christian services.
She has been an active member of The 1805 Club for many years and was Events Officer from 2005 – 2008 responsible for many of the Club’s key events that took place to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Nelson’s death. Lynda is also an active member of her local Rotary Club.

Genevieve was born in Hamilton, New Zealand. When a small child she asked for a book on Captain Cook, and he has been a hero of hers ever since. She has always loved history especially maritime and she followed her dream to become a history teacher and sail to England. In 1998 she completed a Dip Ed in Industrial Architecture and Archaeology, which highlighted for her just what made our own Royal Navy.

Mark presently resides in Montreal, Quebec, the home of the first Nelson column in the British Empire. He is originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland, which is rich in naval history. He first became interested in all things naval by studying the adventures of Captain James Cook, who had spent three years in Newfoundland using triangulation to map the island. Admiral Horatio Nelson was a frequent visitor to Newfoundland in his pursuits of the French navy.

Mark read law at Corpus Christi College Cambridge. For 30 years he was a Chancery barrister, practising in Lincoln’s Inn and specialising in real property and trust law. For 11 years he served on the Committee of the Chancery Bar Association, of which he was Seminar Secretary for 2 years and Treasurer for 4. For 5 years he was a member of the Bar Tribunals and Adjudication Service (formerly the Inns of Court Disciplinary Tribunal)In 2012 he was appointed a Deputy Judge of the Upper Tribunal (Administrative Appeals Chamber) and was appointed a full-time salaried Judge in 2018 (hearing appeals on points of law from First-tier Tribunals).

Sue Carr holds a doctorate in history and her historical interests encompass a broad range of subjects and eras, with an especial lay interest in British maritime history from the sixteenth to early twentieth century, and the history of exploration. She is currently the Executive Secretary of the Royal Historical Society. She was previously Treasurer of both the Historical Association Central London Branch and the former Birkbeck College History Society. Whilst her professional engagement is with the academic history community, Sue is a keen advocate of engaging public interest in the past.
