The following is a selection of some of the Club’s past events. Events are a very important part of the Club’s activities since they help to further its conservation activities by raising its overall profile and are the ideal way for members to get together, discuss their common interests and enjoy themselves.

The Annual Trafalgar Night Dinner at Newhouse, Salisbury
Saturday 17th October 2009

The Annual Trafalgar Night Dinner was again held at Newhouse. We are grateful to June and George Jeffreys for kindly allowing us to continue to hold this wonderful club event in their beautiful home.

The invited speaker this year was Dr Angela McShane of the the V&A Museum, London, who gave a most enthusiatic and illuminating talk on ‘Recruitment Ballads’. The Guest of Honour was Dr Roger Knight, University of Greenwich, author of the majesterial biography of Nelson, The Pursuit of Victory. Commemorative firework display honoured the late Dr Colin White and Lt Cdr David Harris MBE RN. The evening was a great success.

Admiral Sir John Jervis, Earl St Vincent
Saturday 5th September 2009 – Sunday 6th September 2009

A weekend in Stone, Staffordshire was organized to visit Admiral Sir John Jervis country, which included an overnight stay in Stone and a private visit to the Council’s collection of Jervis artefacts and memorabilia. Also included was a behind the scenes look at the wonderful Naval Collection at the Wedgwood Museum.

The 250th Anniversary of laying down of the keel of HMS Victory
Saturday 25th July 2009

The programme for the day included an extensive tour of the Historic Dockyard, a seminar on the construction of HMS Victory and a lunch. This event was a fascinating insight into the building of HMS Victory and the work of the dockyard.
