Description: Made of white marble in 1843, a bust of the head and upper torso of Hardy, without arms, with an inscription below, and the whole standing on a low plinth.

Dimensions: Bust: 229 cm × 74 cm. Plinth: 86 cm × 37 cm.

Sculptor: William Behnes (1795–1864).

governor of greenwich hospital:

the friend and companion in arms of

nelson.

eminent for judgement

and self possession:

ever anxious for the improvement

of the service,

to which he had devoted himself:

equal to all its difficulties and duties,

and conversant with its minutest details.

the name of this gallant and

distinguished officer

will descend to posterity,

as one of the noblest ornaments

of the profession,

to which england is so much indebted

for security and renown.

died september 20th 1839,

aged 70 years.
