Description: Wall monument made of white marble mounted on black, consisting of a pyramid formed of sails and the prow of a ship, a cannon and cannon balls. Below is a coat of arm with two shields and the mottos ‘Tria juncta in uno’ and ‘Jamais sans esperance’

commander in chief at the nore
who died oa an attack of cholera morbus at the admiralty house sheerness
on the 5th of august 1834, aged 61 years.
he distinguished himself in the north seas as captain of the sirius frigate
commanded the achille, 74 guns, at the battle of trafalgar
and, in 1816, was appointed commander in chief in the east indies.
he was twice married,
first, a.d. 1803, to anne sarah, daughter of
admiral sir johh duckworth bart g.c.b. of wear house, devonshire,
by whom he had four sons and one daughter.
secondly, a.d. 1822, to maria susanna, daughter of
admiral sir charles cotton bart of lanwade, cambridgeshire,
by whom he had four sons and three daughters.
his wife and twelve children, survive to deplore the loss of
a tender husband and affectionate father.
