Description: Wall monument situated in a family chapel on the south side of St Nicholas Church. Made of white marble mounted on a black background, the inscription is surmounted by a partially draped urn, and has a coat of arms below with the words ‘Algeziras’, ‘Ildefonso’, ‘Tria juncta in uno’, ‘Ich dien’ and ‘My King and Country’.

to the memory of SIR CHARLES TYLER

of cottrell in this parish

admiral of the white and knight grand cross

of the most honorable and military order of the bath

who died the 28th day of septr 1835 aged 75 years.


his life was devoted to the service of his country

during a period of the greatest difficulty and danger

and he bore a distinguished part in the ever memorable

battle of trafalgar

in which he commanded the tonnant 80 guns

he was honored by the friendship of the hero

under whose auspices he then fought and in whose glorious end

it was nearly his fate to participate

his whole professional career was marked by many acts

of valor and honorable service

which won for him those high distinctions

which were conferred on him by his sovereign

with the general approbation of his countrymen


also of MARGARET wife of the above

who died the 21st day of july 1835 aged 76 years
