At the base of this monument there is the following inscription, in English and French:

This monument generously donated on April 23rd 1994to the town of Calais by Jean Hart Kislak (USA) with the assistance of Flora Fraser and Michael Nash of The 1805 Club (UK) marks the approximate site of Emma, Lady Hamilton's original burial place.
