Your chance to join in
This year is the 250th anniversary of Horatio Nelson's
birthday. Britain's greatest fighting sailor was born on Friday, 29 September
1758 at the Parsonage House, Burnham Thorpe, Norfolk. Many events are already
being planned to celebrate the anniversary in September 2008.
The 1805 Club believes this anniversary gives us a great
opportunity to promote Nelson, even though the Trafalgar bicentenary is still
fresh in everyone's minds. In fact this is an advantage with contrast because 2008
is as an opportunity for a celebration rather than a
commemoration; an opportunity to focus on Nelson himself rather than Trafalgar,
as the country did in 2005.
The 1805 Club has commissioned a 'Nelson 250' logo. This uses a recognisable image of Nelson (after Arthur Devis)
towards the end of his life and a sans
serif typeface that conveys an up-to-date feel, accentuated by the slant of
the words. The logo comes in black and white and three other colours giving
people the opportunity to select which they feel is best for whatever purpose.
The identity is being made freely
available to all bodies and organisations that wish to join in a 'national'
celebration of Nelson's birthday. The more who use it the more
likely it will have an impact on the wider consciousness of the country; and
that is the objective.
The identity is being sent to all
the key players, including the 'Nelson' museums, and The Royal Naval Museum has
already confirmed that it will be using it. A terrific start!
We hope if you are reading this,
whether or not a member of the Club, that you will also use it by downloading one
or all of the jpegs.
The logo is copyright protected.
Therefore, if you download on behalf of a commercial organisation and wish to
apply the logo to T-shirts, mugs, badges, & etc., it can be made available
under licence. Please contact: The Chairman, The 1805 Club, 4a Camp View,
Wimbledon Common, London SW19 4UL.
You are encouraged to join this
celebration to help it reach a wider audience and to help to strengthen the recognition
and legacy of Nelson for the future.
Do remember to let us know if you
use the identity since it will help the Club map the impact of the campaign.
